This episode starts off with the ghost of Bobby (Jim Beaver) showing up to explain what’s going on with the leviathans. Turns out they’re going “Soylent Green on our asses”. What Bobby saw before he died – the location of the co-ordinates – was a factory. The leviathans are going to fatten us up, cure us of all our major illnesses and then munch on us. Doesn’t sound very appetizing, does it?
Am email arrives from Frank saying that he’s dead or that someone is hacking into his hard drive. Fortunately, he put a tracking device in it. The hard drive is in “the middle of the death star” or right smack in the middle of Roman Enterprises.
We take a little trip back in time and listen to “Walking on Sunshine” while watching Charlie (Felician Day) work her way through all the security at Roman Enterprises as she makes her way to her pop-culture slathered cubicle.
Charlie seems to be a bit of a geek. She’s hacking into networks to donate someone else’s money to animal rights networks and a geek. When she’s called into a meeting with her boss she finds herself in a meeting with Dick Roman, himself. He thinks she has a spark and is irreplaceable. Dick Roman has Frank’s hard drive and wants Charlie to hack into it in three days or she’s fired. Frank’s drive is all kinds of encrypted – and let me just say – I love the “War Games” reference.
Back to the boys finding out that the hard drive. Bobby volunteers to ride his flask into Dick’s office to see what’s going on but the boys aren’t in favor of that. They’re worried that Bobby is going to go vengeful when he encounters Dick.
Meanwhile, Charlie has discovered a way into Frank’s hard drive and gets a major download of information about Leviathans and what they are. Bit of a shock there, I’d say. “Blood is black and black is blood.”
Sadly, Charlie’s boss is a “Joe Biden” type and has no spark in him so he becomes Darryl’s dinner right before Darryl becomes Pete. Bad news for Charlie even though she arrives in the parking lot in time to see it! She packs her things immediately and runs into The Winchesters. They do a quick Borax check and then Sam and Dean try to explain their presence to her.
Big shock, Charlie. Monsters are real and Dick Roman is the leader. The Winchesters give Charlie a mission: hack into Dick’s email. His email is on a private server so Charlie has to head into the office herself and find out what Dick is digging up all over the world.
They come up with a plan to get in while Bobby watches. Anyone getting’ an angry kinda vibe from Bobby? Definitely. Bobby put his flask into Charlie’s bag so he could hitch a ride into the Death star. Bad news.
Charlie heads inside while the brothers hang out in a super kitted out spy van. Sam gives Charlie a Harry Potter pep talk. Hermione kicked ass so Charlie can “kick it in the ass.” (RIP Kim Manners – we all miss you).
Things are going really well for Charlie and her ride-along companion, Bobby, until she runs into a security guard. Dean tells her to flirt her way past but she says she can’t because he’s the wrong gender. “Pretend he has boobs.” Great suggestion Dean. “All Tattoos are sexy.” “I was drunk, it was comic con.”
Dean takes over and talks Charlie through the flirting. The comic timing is great in their scene… watch it. And thanks to Dean’s great advice on how to charm a man, she makes it inside.
Radio silence inside Dick Roman’s office: Charlie tries to hack into his computer. His password is “w1nn1ng” which confirms a few things for me about Charlie Sheen. With a little bit of help from Bobby Charlie makes it out of the office with Dick’s email on a USB drive.
Just as the files are being sent to the boys in the van Levia-Pete shows up. The boys want her to leave but she’s “pretending” to work. Whatever Dick has been trying to dig up all over the world is being delivered to him that very evening. The Winchesters head off to try and intercept the package just as Charlie is intercepted by Dick Roman. Not good.
Sam and Dean didn’t arrive at the airport in time to get the mysterious suitcase – and off we go back in time to find out that Charlie managed to create a bit of delay. She forwarded an email to Dick telling him that the package would be delayed. The airport staff unloading the suitcase? Yeah. Sam and Dean.
Back on the Death star – Dick is trying to find out from Charlie what’s on Frank’s hard drive. Fortunately, she’s hidden most of the important stuff. Bobby is behind her – talking himself out of rage and into helping Charlie. The Borax bomb the boys switched into the suitcase goes off and Charlie runs. Dick is just never put out of commission by Borax though and he locks down the building. With a little more help from Bobby, Charlie manages to avoid being eaten long enough for Sam and Dean to smash through the glass doors like Sonic the hedgehog!
Bobby takes on Dick Roman while the boys escape with Charlie. She’s wounded but ok and they boys put her on a bus.
Sam is worried that Bobby isn’t in control of what he’s doing. He threw a Leviathan at Charlie and that’s what broke her arm. But what happens if things get worse? If Bobby really goes over the edge the boys might not be able to pull him back.
