It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s GISHWHES? What is GISHWHES you ask?
Why it’s the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen. This is the brain child of the mad but often hilarious Misha Collins. Better known for his portrayal as Castiel on the hit series “Supernatural”, Misha Collins also started a charity called Random Acts. This scavenger hunt was a way to raise money for the charity since participants had to pay a minimum of $10 to register. The idea for GISHWHES was hatched when Misha did a much smaller scavenger hunt last year with rhino puzzle pieces. It was such a huge success and a lot of fun. The plan was to make it bigger and better. Not only big but Guinness World record big. The winning team would also be flown to Italy for a spaghetti dinner with Misha.
Misha’s Minions, as followers on his Twitter are fondly called, joined by the thousands. So many joined that they broke the registration. Here is what Misha had to say on twitter.
“I have to say I’m kind of proud that your saboteur rate was not, 1 or 2 people, but about 20% of registrants. You’re very anti-establishment!”
The final count for registration was 6,000 which Misha and his team had to break up into groups of ten. As soon as emails went out to group members the speculations for what would be on the list were rampant. Misha didn’t disappoint in the bizarre items he had on the list. The following are just a few of the crazier ones.
· Display an artifact from the Ottoman Empire in a Pizza Hut in Bulgaria.
· A “raft” party for 10 people including radios, coolers of beer, in the middle of the desert – everything must be on something inflatable.
· It’s 7:00am in Barcelona on La Rambla. The smell of cocaine still hangs in the air. Still-drunk youth are stumbling home. The street is littered with bottles, and you are playing your upright baby grand piano on the sidewalk.
· A women wear a dress (and only the dress) made entirely of bacon
If you didn’t have a chance to register it’s too late; the scavenger hunt only lasts until November 29, 2011. Needless to say with 6,000 participants Misha can blow the old Guinness world record out of the water.
