The Cape 1×06 Recap

Rumors are still abound on whether NBC will keep its Superhero themed show, The Cape, but as we continue to wait for the potentially inevitable axe to drop, we are given more chances to grow fond of caped crusader Faraday and his still mostly mysterious “side kick” Orwell.

The sixth episode, “Goggles and Hicks”, has a distinct lack of notorious bad guy Peter Fleming but he’s obvious been up to no good, and clearly still trying to develop a way to get rid of The Cape. Fleming has hired a murderous duo, a techno savvy tracker who is bound to a wheel chair and his killer partner who’s more than a bit psychotic. The episode starts with Scales – with a reappearance by Vinnie Jones – and Faraday coming to a meeting in a church both thought the other called.

By use of a biometric tracker planted on Faraday the evil duo learn his true identity, though they don’t share it with Fleming just yet. Orwell and Faraday are unaware that anything is amiss until their lunch in a park is interrupted by a flying machine gun. It takes some time but Orwell finally locates the tracker on Faraday and removes it, but Hicks is closing in already.

Just when you start to worry about The Cape’s identity being revealed to Fleming, a surprise battle in an art deco building sees Faraday capturing Goggles and leaving Hicks stranded and lost without his partner. Fleming is less than pleased with the failure, but Hicks does not rest until he is able to make a trade of his partner for the USB containing Faraday’s information.

Though the brother/sister relationship between Faraday and Orwell was strengthened a fair bit more in this episode, the ending lacked the usual tease that would have you questioning what was to come. It’s an unfortunate sign that cancelation might be around the corner, there are four episodes left in the season and the only way to keep the show on air is to tune in, express your love, and spread the word.
