CSI: NY Season 7, Episode 6: “Do Not Pass Go”
The episode begins with a couple by the name of Charles and Elizabeth Harris. At the start of the episode, we see the couple sitting on a couch in a seamingly abandoned building. The husband wants to leave, but the wife refuses. It becomes apparent that they are in search of something.
The couple then begins their way up a flight of stairs. Charles is tired and hot, and is sure this is all just a prank. Elizabeth, not wanting to give up, pleads with him to continue up the stairs saying that they need to “know for sure.” They then reach a door way to the roof.
Upon entering the roof, they come across a car on the roof. Seeing someone in the drivers side of the car, Elizabeth Harris becomes excited. As she moves closer to the vehicle, she finds the person in the car to be dead and decomposing. And let me just tell you that the body was DISGUSTING! I must say great job to the make-up and special effects team. Talk about a job well done!
Shortly after, the CSI’s are on scene. We then find out that the Harris’ were in search of their son, Jeremy, who disappeared days before. Obviously distraught thinking that the body is that of their son, the Harris’ explain to Detective Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) that they had received a voicemail with instructions. After they filed a missing persons report for their son, the trail went cold. So they they offered a reward which caused the hundreds of phonecalls. After listening to voicemails that were nothing but a dead end, they came across the voicemail that led them to the abandoned buidling.
Back at the lab, Sid (Robert Joy) and Hawkes (Hill Harper) begin to examine the body. Due to the decomposition of the body, the only option they have to identify the remains is bone marrow and dental records. While studying the body, Sid finds a tattoo on the victim’s arm and begins further research.
One of the nice things about this episode is that we get to know a little more about Jo Danville (Sela Ward). She was the new addition to the cast this year in place of Stella (Melina Kanakaredes) and I just love what she brings to the show. While the CSI’s are investigating the case, a young girl enters the lab. When she is confronted by Mac about what she is doing there, Jo enters the scene and we learn that this girl is her daughter. Jo’s daughter, Ellie (Sydney Parks), is having trouble adjusting to New York City. As Jo and Ellie take a walk together, we learn that Ellie is having trouble at school and misses her old school and friends back in Virginia.
While Jo and Ellie are enjoying some mother-daughter time, Adam Ross (A.J. Buckley) is back at the lab analyzing the voicemail message the Harris’ received. He has found that the caller is using a prepaid cell phone, making the calls untracable. After cleaning up the voicemail message the Harris’ received, he plays it for Mac. The caller left a message with step by step instructions for the couple. While the instructions led the couple on a wild goose chase, it becomes clear to Mac and Adam that it was the intention of the caller to make the couple suffer on to see the inevitable.
Upon finding the tattoo and getting the I.D. from dental records, Sid tells Jo that the victim is not the Harris’ son Jeremy. The victim is 19 year old Craig Anderson, who was a sophomore at NYU. We then find out that the Harris’ son Jeremy was also a student at NYU. It is then up to the CSI’s to find out why the killer wanted the Harris’ to find the body if it wasn’t their son.
We then meet Mrs. Anderson, the mother of the victim Craig Anderson. She shows up at the precinct looking for Detective Flack (Eddie Cahill). They begin to discuss her son and how he was a model student and an all around good kid. Flack assures her that they will find who did this to her son. Mrs. Anderson then tells Flack that she would like to see the body so she can say goodbye. With how badly the body has decomposed, Flack advises her against that, saying that it would not be the way she would want to remember her son.
Meanwhile, Mr. Harris shows up at the precinct also looking for Detective Flack. Flack enters the precinct as Mr. Harris is making somewhat of a scene. Obviously upset and distraught, we learn that his wife received another voicemail and has seemingly disappeared. Not wanting to lose his wife as well, he tells Flack what he remembers from the message, including an address in Brooklyn that they were told to go to.
Mac, Flack, and Jo arrive at the Brooklyn address. While searching for Mrs. Harris in a building that seems empty, Jo sees smoke coming from the floor below. As they arrive downstairs, they find everything in the room on fire. After finding Mrs. Harris alive, they evacuate the building.
As the CSI’s investigate the burned building, we are then able to hear the most recent voicemail the Harris’ received. They were again given a set of instructions. Mrs. Harris was told to dump gasoline on everything in the room and set everything on fire. She was specifically told “do not leave anything behind.” It is then that Mac realizes that the instructions are not to lead the couple to their son, but tio destroy evidence.
While Hawkes and Lindsay (Anna Belknap) investigate the burned out floor of the building, they both come across very interesting pieces of evidence. While Hawkes comes across a highly venomous snake that was burned alive. It is then realized that the the victim was injected with venom and left to siffer and die. Lindsay finds a service apron at the scene. Upon investigating the apron, Lindsay finds blood and runs the DNA. The blood on the apron was from an unsolved murder of a bouncer named Ryan Pirisi.
Back at the lab, everyone’s favorite lab rat Adam Ross has a break in the case. He has found that while the caller is using untracable prepaid cell phones, they were purchased at the same store and same time. The CSI’s come to conclusion that since they were purchased at the same store and same time, the SIM cards on the phone would be sequencial. Able to determine the next phone in the sequence, Adam traces the phone to the same bar Ryan Pirisi worked and was killed at.
Jo and Flack then head to the bar the cell phone is being used at. Upon arrival, Jo calls the cell phone and sees that the bartender is the one with the phone. The bartender takes off running with Jo and Flack after him. Just as it seems that the suspect is about to get away, Jo pushes a dumpster in front of him, stopping him in his tracks. He is then taken back to the precinct for questioning where they learn that he was making the calls for a friend. The bartender, Ruben, tells Mac that his friend asked him to call the Harris’ and read them a script. When Mac insists that he give him the name of the friend, Ruben askes for a lawyer. It is then that Mac notices Ruben has a stamp on his hand for Rikers Prison. With new information, Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo)find that Ruben had visited a female inmate by the name of Allison. It is then learned that Allison was the fiance of Ryan Pirisi.
It is then that Jo pays a visit to Allison at Rikers. She learns that Ryan had kicked out two kids from the bar for causing trouble. The boys then came back and threatened Ryan. Later that night, Ryan was killed. We come to find out that the boys Allison was referring to were Jeremy Harris and Craig Anderson.
Convinced that Allison is the killer, Jo tries to get a confession. Allison recounts the night her fiance was killed. She tells Jo that he died in her arms. It is then that she confesses, saying that she knew it was Craig and Jeremy because they had threatened Ryan. Jo tells Allison that there is no evidence that the boys killed Ryan and that all the Harris’ want to be able to do is properly say goodbye to their son. It is then that Allison finally tells Jo the location where Jeremy can be found.
Mac and the rest of the gang head to the old Navy yard where Allison told them Jeremy can be found. Expecting to find Jeremy dead, the CSI’s find his body. Thinking he is dead, Hawkes goes to take a closer look at the body and finds that Jeremy is still breathing. The paramedics are called and Jeremy is taken to the hospital. We learn that Jeremy was also poisoned with snake venom and is responding to the anti-venom. While he’s not out of the woods yet, he is expected to make a full recovery.
