Fashion Deconstruction: Letters to Juliet

If you haven’t watched Letters to Juliet, I suggest you do! It’s an adorable chick flick with the added bonus of Italy’s breathtaking scenery. When I was watching it, I realised that I loved most of Sophie’s (Amanda Seyfried) outfits. Not only were they very practical for a girl on a vacation, they were also well put together.

Fashion Feature 1: New York, New York

The journey begins in New York, where Sophie lives with her Italian boyfriend. Her clothes are modern and monochromic, perhaps to show how structured and uneventful her life is before the vacation of a lifetime? Nevertheless, Sophie blends in perfectly – nothing too flashy, but still very fashionable.

Fashion Feature 2: Ciao, Verona

Sophie transforms into a different person in Verona. Gone are the work clothes; say hello to all things summer! Sophie keeps things feminine with a gorgeous sundress, and her blouses have little details. Note that she never wears heels – there’s so much to see in Verona, and she walks a lot.

Fashion Feature 3: Basic Traveller

When going on holiday, chances are that you’d pack light, and most of your pieces are basics. Sophie embraces summer in short skirts, shorts and cotton tops. Note that there’s something different about all her outfits, it doesn’t look as if she’s wearing the same thing again and again. A little ruffles or buttons go a long way.

Fashion Feature 4: Something different

Have a little change once in a while! Sophie ditched her short sleeved pastel blouses for a striking blue cardigan. Up the glam factor in a pretty formal dress. If you’re afraid you’d feel cold or underdressed, bring a shawl along with you. Experiment with different fabrics and patterns – switch a plain t-shirt with a lace top, and you almost have a whole new outfit.
